“The Heat is On!” and with it Lake Erie’s algae bloom . . .
Satelytics was born out of research done at Bowling Green State University to keep drinking water safe for Northwest Ohio and Toledo residents. Lake Erie has long been known to experience toxic algae blooms which have caused municipalities to warn residents and businesses to restrict or even cease water consumption!
Here is a current look at Lake Erie, with analytics over the Western Basin. Satelytics can detect early harvest of these harmful algae blooms, at their source, for early detection and remediation, allowing professionals to avoid repeating dangerous toxic episodes.

Satelytics capabilities are unmatched in the remote sensing world in that constituents can not only be detected but also QUANTIFIED in parts per million to parts per trillion (PPM-PPT) concentrations! Using the power of the sun shining on land or water, spectral reflectance is measured by sensors onboard satellite, UAV, aircraft, stratospheric balloon, or fixed camera. Satelytics’ software processes the infrared data, identifies the unique constituent signature, or surrogate, and supplies our customers with alerts and alarms to the challenges they face.

These projects include heavy metal concentrations for arsenic, barium, copper, manganese, and iron, all in PPB. An exciting new addition to our capabilities, and in its final stages of ground truthing, is PFAS measurement. PFAS stands for a broad group of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances and Satelytics will be able to detect and quantify them in PPT concentrations.
