Project Scientist

As a Project Scientist, you will work as part of the Professional Services team at Satelytics. The primary role of the Project Scientist is to manage client relations and project timelines for the projects assigned to you. In addition to project management, you will also be working hands-on with remotely sensed data as a true scientist, working to discover new and exciting methodologies to solve for ever-expanding client needs.

Job Duties

  • Client communications:
    • Introduce new clients to the interface via web meetings
    • Provide data delivery notifications and updates as analyses are completed
    • Host live training sessions via in-person or web meetings
    • Promptly address client questions and concerns
  • Data quality assurance:
    • Ensure project deliverables meet client needs and exceed expectations
    • Work closely with the Research and Development team to provide accurately referenced and formatted data for in-house algorithm development
  • Collaborate with teams across Satelytics to ensure all clients needs are being met promptly and proficiently
  • Explain basic remote sensing principles and how that translates to specific client deliverables
  • Assist other scientists in the automation and algorithm development including QAQC workflow, image processing, and data delivery
  • Assist other Satelytics teams as needed
  • Report progress and needs to management
  • Maintain established data organization structures both in-house and within


  • Master’s degree in Remote Sensing, Geoscience, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred; exceptional candidates with a Bachelor’s and related work experience will be considered
  • 1-3 years experience working directly with remotely sensed data and/or GIS, or 1-3 years experience in a project management role
  • Occasional travel to client sites


  • Proficient at public speaking and leading large and small groups either online or in-person
  • Ability to simplify complex scientific concepts to audiences of various backgrounds
  • Demonstrate professionalism in writing and speaking
  • Manage multiple, diverse projects simultaneously
  • Experience using GUI remote sensing and GIS software (e.g. QGIS, ENVI) to manipulate vector and raster data
  • Familiarity with remotely sensed imagery
  • Ability to clearly define and communicate requests and desired outcomes
  • Proficient with standard Microsoft Office apps
  • Adaptable in a deadline-driven environment


  • Experience in a customer service and/or client-facing role
  • Experience in a project management role
  • Knowledge of field sampling protocol and equipment (spectroradiometer, handheld GPS, water sampling, soil sampling)
