Aged Like a Fine Wine

Satelytics' algorithms get better with age.

Précis
  • Problem: Too much data.
  • Solution: Satelytics accurately reduces data to actionable alerts.
  • Benefit: Workforce focused on correcting, not looking for, issues.

Have you ever heard the phrase some things get better with age? This might refer to a fine wine or the relationship with your soulmate. Perhaps it is personal growth where life’s lessons make you a better person. All of these would apply to my life in some manner. I have failed often, my spouse has refined my character, and my vintage is better today than it was 15 years ago!

Just like me, Satelytics' algorithms get better with age.

Satelytics’ 36 algorithms passively detect and quantify constituents in the infrared spectrum. The sun shines light on the surface of the earth and what bounces back is a unique spectral signature. Just like my fingerprint is mine alone, so the signatures of methane, an oak tree, arsenic, and liquid hydrocarbons are unique as well. Our algorithms also measure intensity of the signature, allowing for quantification of many constituents — something that sets Satelytics apart from the rest. We are the only firm to quantify methane leak rates down to 9 kg/hr and measure nutrient load like phosphorous in concentrations of parts per billion.

When the ability to quantify is coupled with artificial intelligence, the offering becomes more robust the more data it inhales — thus the term, “machine learning.” In my previous job, I was a Satelytics customer looking for produced water and hydrocarbon spills in North Dakota and New Mexico. I witnessed firsthand the power of artificial intelligence when combined with algorithms that were built upon sound scientific principles.

Satelytics’ accuracy increases with every pixel analyzed. During the program I just mentioned, the false positive rate dropped below 2%! These were incredible results, proving that as the algorithms learn the signature and the area, they become more robust in their detections. It seemed like a “sky is the limit” situation.

Monitoring for encroachments or speciation of trees in the right-of-way? The results will get better. The same is true for liquid leak detections in the upstream space. And the same is true with methane leak surveys in the gas distribution world. The more times we scan the area, the better the accuracy becomes.

Satelytics' customers keep coming back because the results get better with age, just like me and a fine wine.

All of Satelytics algorithms start out accurate and continue to get better with age.
